COVID-19 cases shoot up in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 10 (UNI) Cases of COVID-19 infection shot up in Meghalaya with 31 new cases detected on Wednesday, taking active cases up to 164 in the State.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said that new COVID-19 cases detected were 21 in East Khasi Hills district, nine in West Jaintia Hills district and one in East Jaintia Hills district.

With 104 active COVID-19 cases and 122 deaths due to the disease, East Khasi Hills, that includes State capital Shillong is the most affected district.

Four more recoveries from the viral infection were recorded in the East Khasi Hills district, surging the number recoveries in the State to 13612 so far, the health official informed.

Of the 3,48,913 persons tested for COVID-19 as on Wednesday, 3,34,989 were tested negative for the virus even as 44 persons were in institutional quarantine and 120 persons were in home isolation, the State Directorate of health services informed.

Till date, 90,592 persons from outside have returned to the State, which has so far registered 13924 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 148 deaths with 1.06 per cent case fatality rate, 164 active cases and 13612 cases that of recovery from the viral disease.

On the other hand, 9696 healthcare workers have been inoculated against COVID-19 with Covishield vaccine across the State so far, the latest data released by the State health and family welfare department reflected.

As on date, 29.22 per cent of the total 33185 healthcare workers have been inoculated with Covishield vaccine across the State, he said.
