UPDATE: Garena’s comments added regarding its recent Free Fire India Championship 2021 ban.
During the ongoing Free Fire India Championship 2021 Spring event, Indian player Aayush from team Old Skool has been banned for cheating. The player was using hacks and banned as per Free Fire’s anti-cheat system. It seems that Aayush is now banned from all Garena Free Fire tournaments until February 7, 2022 while Old Skool has been disqualified from the Free Fire India Championship 2021. At the moment it is unknown if Old Skool was aware of Aayush cheating. IGN India reached out to Garena for comment and was pointed in the direction of an announcement made by the company on Facebook that’s as follows:
“On 8 February 2021, Player ‘AAYUSH’ from old skool was detected by the in-game anti-hack system to have used hacks and was banned consequently.
AAYUSH will be banned from all Garena Free Fire Tournaments until 7 February 2022 and old skool is disqualified from Free Fire India Championship 2021 Spring.”

With PUBG Mobile’s India ban seemingly permanent, India’s vast mobile game playing populace has gravitated towards the likes of other battle royale fare such as Free Fire. Garena has a huge India presence with regular tournaments and events planned around the game.
This is in comparison to other popular mobile titles like Call of Duty Mobile for which Activision does not have a dedicated team in India for despite its rampant popularity. Then again this should be no surprise when you consider that it’s best-selling Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War didn’t even launch in India officially.
