HYDERABAD: A man and his wife allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at their house in Mylardevpally in Telangana on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Ramesh Joshi (52), an accountant by profession and his wife Rajkanya Joshi (50), a house wife.
The couple, natives of Rajasthan, used to live in Brindavan Colony.
They are survived by their 18-year-old daughter.
On Tuesday night, the couple went to sleep in the hall of their house while their daughter was sleeping in the bedroom.
On Wednesday morning, the girl woke up and realized that her bedroom door was bolted from outside.
As her parents did not respond, she opened the window and shouted for help.
Their neighbours broke the main door latch and found the bodies of the couple in the hall, Mylardevpally inspector K Narsimha said.
"We have found traces of food in a vessel next to Rajkanya," the inspector said.
Police searched the house but they did not find a suicide note.
"We suspect that the couple consumed food laced with poison to end their lives. The exact cause of death could only be ascertained after the postmortem report. The couple's daughter is also unaware of the reason for the suicide and we suspect that some personal or financial reason could be the reason," the inspector said.
Police shifted the bodies for postmortem to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and registered a suspicious death case under Section 174 of the CrPC.
