VADODARA: The police have detained two persons who allegedly created the fake social media account of Gujarat assembly speaker Rajendra Trivedi and sought monetary assistance from his friend circle.
Police sources said that the duo had been picked up from Haryana, while cops are still trying to find the mastermind of the racket.
Police officials said that it was a syndicate that operated such fake social media accounts of prominent persons and its gang members send friend request to victim’s friends before asking for money.
The crime branch had on February 4 booked unidentified men for making fake Facebook page of the BJP MLA titled ‘Rajendra Trivedi Fan Club’.
When it started approaching people for money, some citizens inquired from BJP leaders about the page following which a complaint was lodged by the cybercrime cell.
