CHAMBA: All the hospital buildings in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh will be made earthquake resistant besides the administration will use the historic Chaugan,a ground in the center of Chamba where most of the cultural activities are organized, as a relief camp with the facility of landing and taking off of the helicopter in case of emergency.
The decisions were taken by the Chamba administration during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held here on Wednesday.
Later talking to TOI deputy commissioner Chamba, D C Rana informed that all the hospital buildings in Chamba would be made aseismic besides he said that the old hospital buildings would be assessed for the impact of earthquakes and their seismic resistance would be enhanced using retrofitting methods.
The Chamba administration would also find a suitable place to construct a helipad near the Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, Sarol, near Chamba for the use of air ambulance.
In another significant decision, Rana informed that in case of a natural catastrophe like an earthquake, the DDMA had decided to use Chaugan as a relief camp in case of extreme emergency and for the purpose obstacles would be removed from the Chaugan so that helicopters could take off and land during an emergency.
In yet another significant decision, he informed that for the disaster mitigation a team of 15 volunteers would be constituted in every panchayat of the district who would begin relief and rescue work as a first reaction after any disaster said he.
