Private participation in space will help develop technology, services: Minister

New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Private sector participation in space activities is likely to result in development of cutting edge technologies, new applications and services in India, Minister of State, Space, Jitendra Singh, said on Wednesday.
Overall it will make a bigger impact on space economy, he said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The minister said that the government has analysed the issues and concerns about national security while allowing private companies to participate in space activities.
Appropriate measures have been taken by means of establishing Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe), an independent nodal agency to authorise, monitor and regulate space activities in the country, he added.
The minister said that ISRO facilities have been extended to Indian industries and academia for testing their space systems.
He said 26 companies/startups have approached ISRO seeking technical guidance and facility sharing for their space activity.
To another related question, the minister said India has earned till date USD 25 million and Euro 189 million, launching 328 satellites from 33 countries.
Singh said that the government has set up NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a public sector undertaking under the Department of Space, to commercially launch satellites and become financially self-reliant.
He said that ISRO is striving to achieve Atmanirbharta in the field of capacity development in launching satellites; therefore, no policy is envisaged for seeking foreign cooperation in this direction.
