AHMEDABAD: First time since April last year, active Covid-19 cases in the city dropped to less than 500, at 435 on Tuesday.
The city reported 43 fresh cases on Tuesday. In all, 76 persons were discharged from hospitals and one death was reported in the city. The active cases are likely to go below 400 on Wednesday. On Tuesday morning, all the zones in the city had cases below 100.
The western part of the city, including west zone, north west and south west zone, have 53% of the total active cases. Of the 435 active cases, the share of western part was 233.
After Diwali, the western part had reported more cases. The Walled City areas have been witnessing a sharp decline in cases. Between February 1 and February 9, the central zone alone reported a drop of 72 cases, while 98 cases declined in the north west zone areas of Bodakdev, Thaltej, Ghatlodia and Gota.
A senior official said that of the 435 active cases, most of the patients are in home quarantine. “Hardly 40% of the patients are currently in hospitals,” he said. The city has so far reported 57,457 cases, of which 2,245 died because of Covid infection.
On February 1 the city had 955 cases, the first time the number of cases had come down to three digits.
