FA Cup: Everton comes out on top after winning 5-4 against Tottenham Hotspurs. The game went into extra-time as the teams could not be separated in 90 minutes. Everton scored an extra-time winner to advance into the 4th Round.
Tottenham gains an early lead
Davinson Sanchez scored in just 3 minutes to put Jose Mourinho’s team in front. The visitors are rewarded for their fast start as Sanchez directed his header from close range.
Son whipped in a corner from the left flank and Sanchez put it past Olsen in the bottom-right corner.
Everton equalized and gains the lead
Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalized for Carlo Ancelloti’s men as Sigurdsson offloaded a pass into the path of Calvert-Lewin who blasted an effort at goal on the half-volley. Lloris gets a hand on the ball but is unable to palm it into the back of the net.
Everton equalized in the 36th minute.
Richarlison gained a 1-goal lead for Everton as he placed a powerful effort through the legs of Alderweireld and the ball traveled beyond the reach of Hugo Lloris into the bottom-left corner just 2 minutes later in the 38th minute.
A penalty was awarded to Everton 7 minutes later in the 43rd minute and Gylfi Sigurdsson fakes out Lloris before placing his penalty in the bottom-right corner to double the lead for Everton.
Tottenham get an equalizer
In the injury time of the first half, Erik Lamela played a one-two with Son and the offload traveled through Yerry Mina after he failed to make an interception. Lamela seized on the opportunity and blasted the strike past Olsen to get a goal back and cut the deficit in half.
Everton leads 3-2 at half-time.
Sanchez then secured a brace in the 57th minute to equalize for the Spurs. Alderweirald rises high in the air to meet Son’s cross but Olsen saves his attempt. Unfortunately for him, the ball falls in the path of Sanchez as he reacted first to the ball and smashed the ball into the empty net.
Everton gains the lead again
Richarlison put Everton in front again after securing his brace in the 68th minute. The incredible game took another turn as Sigurdsson sent an offload into the left channel and Richarlison wheeled off the back of Sanchez.
The Brazilian held his composure to fire across Lloris from a tight angle to find the bottom-right corner in the 68th minute.
Tottenham scores another equalizer
Spurs go at level with just 7 minutes left as Harry Kane converted with a diving header. Everton failed to clear their lines from a set-piece after a flap by Olsen.
Doucoure tried to clear the ball but the visitors kept the pressure on via Lamela. Son and Kane combine as Son crosses from the left flank. Kane was predatory and dispatched his header into the net.
Everton grab the win in extra-time
It was Bernard who produced a sublime finish. The scoring continued into extra-time as Bernard scored a cracker. Sigurdsson started the move with a sensational flick over the top of the Spurs defence into the left inside channel.
Bernard timed his run before blasting his effort past Hugo Lloris.
Everton advance to the 4th round of the FA Cup.
