Japan Display saw its sales halve year-on-year in the fiscal third quarter to December, to JPY 72.7 billion from JPY 150 billion a year earlier, due to lower shipments of smartphone displays as customers shifted to Oleds. As a result, the company moved to an operating loss of JPY 8.7 billion versus a profit of JPY 2.5 billion a year earlier. The net result was a profit of JPY 13.4 billion, helped by a one-time gain of JPY 18.6 billion on the sale of its Hakusan plant.
