Reacting to one of the tweets of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, GCMMF MD R S Sodhi said 10 crore cattle rearers in our country have achieved freedom without any MSP, Fertilizer Subsidy, Crop Subsidy, Seed Subsidy, priority sector loan subsidy, crop insurance subsidy, power subsidy and income tax exemption subsidy.

The PM had written, “Milk Production is not restricted in any way. In the milk sector private as well co-operative are working together. Why the freedom like cattle rearers should not be extended to small and marginal farmers who produce grain and pulses”, he wrote.

The entire animal husbandry sector contributes immensely to nutrition and empowers the most marginal of farmers and landless labourers. Milk alone accounts for around 100 million producers, most marginal, with no land.
