NOIDA: A security guard employed with a cash and logistics company was shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday, allegedly by a man who had entered the premises with an intention to loot.
The incident took place around 4.22am, police said. The accused person, wearing a mask and carrying a country-made pistol and a bag on his back, jumped over one of the walls of the building that houses Bricks India Private Limited in Sector 4. Footage from CCTV cameras shows Uttam Kesarwani, the 44-year-old guard, coming to blows with him and trying to fight him off. After a two-minute-long scuffle, the accused manages to escape, returns to shoot the guard in the chest and then flees.
At the time of the incident, there were five guards present – two, including Uttam, inside the security control room and three others inside the company’s premises. In the CCTV footage, during the brawl between Uttam and the accused, another guard can be seen entering the scene. Police said he failed to act on time even though he had a rifle in his hand, which allowed the accused to flee.
“He was negligent and didn’t shoot at the accused even as he saw him jostling with the other guard. The accused came with an intention of theft and knew the premises well. We are probing if he had worked there in the past or if an insider is involved,” additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said.
