JAMSHEDPUR/RANCHI: Jharkhand DGP M V Rao on Tuesday said police will investigate and book the perpetrators for the threats received by chief minister Hemant Soren last month. Notably, a threat email was received by the Chief Minister’s Office from an anonymous person, which, despite instructions to maintain secrecy, got leaked on social media on Tuesday.
A case was registered with the cyber police station and an officer was appointed to investigate the case. The police department also queried subordinate officers on how the incident was known to media.
Speaking on the issue in Chaibasa, Rao said police will deal firmly with those behind sending the email and send them to “the place they rightly deserve”.
“Sending anonymous threat emails is nothing, but an act of cowardice,” Rao said.
It may be stated here that this is the second time miscreants have issued threats to Hemant Soren. A Similar email was sent to the CM on July 8, 2020 while the FIR was registered on July 13, 2020 with the cyber cell.
It may be mentioned here that during his Chaibasa visit, the DGP along with CRPF IG and ADG, (operations), chaired a review meeting with the SPs of three districts of Kolhan division at the district police headquarters.
Speaking on extremism in the state, Rao said, “Operations against extremists will continue till the menace (of extremism) is completely ended. The 17 wanted Maoists of the state will either have to surrender or be prepared to face the consequences.”
The DGP said operations against the ultras will be intensified in the district borders of East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhhum, connecting Odisha and Bengal.
The DGP also told police and paramilitary heads to make sure villagers are taken into confidence, coordination between forces and public is improved and development works are promoted in the Naxal-hit areas.
The DGP also visited West Singhbhhum to take stock of the ongoing operation against extremists.
