Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane on Monday said he was proud of his team's efforts in a 2-0 defeat against the number one ranked club team in world football, Bayern Munich in a Club World Cup semi-final clash.

FIFA's The Best winner Robert Lewandowski scored a brace as the European Champions League winners booked their place in the competition's final.

Mosimane said that he was proud of his team's efforts against a formidable opponent as the Egyptian giants put up a valiant fight in the second-half.

The German giants dominated the majority of possession with 70% of the ball but needed Lewandowski's stoppage time second goal in the 92nd minute to secure the win.

"It was a very difficult game for us," Mosimane said post match. "They're a very good team and you can understand why they're the number one team in the world.

"I don't think we were that bad and were defensively organised, we just lacked a little bit of the quality that they have to create or score goals.

"It's my first time since I've been at Al Ahly in about five months that I've now suffered my first defeat.

"It's my first defeat in five months so you've got to understand how I feel and I hate losing.

Mosimane went on to explain why his side had such little possession of the ball while relying mostly on counter attacks in an attempt to score.

"It's not to say that we wanted to stay back, they pushed us back and you have to accept that when you play a superior team.

"You can never open up your midfield and allow a free-flowing game to allow them to score goals, as they're a team who put eight past Barcelona.

"So we weren't scared, we tried to play proper football and we thought that we'd perhaps get one chance of our own to score."
