Guidelines to regulate OTT platforms ready & to be implemented soon: Javadekar

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) Agreeing with the concerns of the elders in the Rajya Sabha over the contents of internet based OTT platform on Tuesday, Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that guidelines to regulate OTT platforms are ready to be implemented soon.

Raising the issue of Netflix and other OTT platforms hosting content that affects the Indian values, the BJP lawmaker Mahesh Joshi said, "The language used in the programmes reflects gender discrimination, body parts are displayed, women are objectified. The government should not delay and regulate these platforms at the earliest”.

Some other Members of the House also associated with this issue.

Samajwadi Party lawmaker Ram Gopal Yadav raised the issue of lateral induction to the posts of Joint Secretary by the government.

"The IAS fraternity is upset. Lakhs of aspirants prepare for the UPSC, they are anguished. There is no scope of reservation. In the last nine recruitments no SC or ST was inducted. Please give instructions and stop this for the administration will suffer".

The Congress Member Neeraj Daangi raised the issue of low pension amount of EPF schemes and demanded that seeing the inflation and needs of an older persons, it should be increased to over Rs nine thousands while the AIADMK Member N Gokulakrishnan sought for an increase in the budgetary grant for Puducherry.

DMK lawmaker T Shiva demanded that the Government should appoint a Tamil teacher in Central Schools in Tamil Nadu.

He said "There are 49 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu. None of them have Tamil language teachers. This is injustice to the local students. It is against the federal structure of the country. Students are enrolled into KVs because the fees is low and education level is good. The poor students are being disadvantaged. Tamil should be made a compulsory language in KVs in the State. And also respective regional languages in other states”.

Shiv Sena Member Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded raised the issue of the Indian sailors stuck in the Chinese water since long.

"Indian sailors are still stuck on China sea on MV Anastasia. It should be our priority to bring them back. They are stuck there since July 2020”, she said.

Responding to the issue, the Union Minister Mansukh Mandavdia said that two Ministries have been in touch with authorities of China on the issue.

NCP Vandana Chavan raised the issue of carbon emission and low forestation , she advocated the need of increase forestation to decrease the Ozone impact. “India will require 30 million hectares for afforestation to stop CO2 emissions”, she said.
