Wasim Jaffer cites unique pattern after India's 1st Test defeat vs England, asks fans 'not to lose heart'

India vs England: Former opener Wasim Jaffer has asked the fans to not lose hope after India suffered defeat in the first Test in Chennai against England.

Former opener Wasim Jaffer cited a unique pattern to motivate the fans after the Indian team suffered a 227-run defeat at the hands of England in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Jaffer pointed out that India had won the series both home and away after losing the opening Test and asked the fans to not lose heart. "Don't lose heart Indian fans. The last time India lost the first test of a series, they won the series. The last time India lost the first test of a home series, they won the series. #INDvsENG," Jaffer tweeted.

Notably, India went onto win the recently concluded Border Gavaskar series 2-1 in Australia despite losing the first Test in Adelaide. Earlier, in 2017 India lost the first Test but managed to beat Australia in Dharamsala, Bengaluru to clinch the home series 2-1. Surprisingly both the come from behind series wins came under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane.

Chasing 420 in the final innings, England bowled India out for 192 on Day 5 to become the first team to beat the hosts at the MA Chidambaram stadium since 1999. The loss also ended India's 14-match unbeaten streak in home Tests and 8-match unbeaten streak at this venue. England set India a 420-run target after scoring 178 runs in its second innings. The visitors had scored 578 runs in the first innings thanks to Joe Root’s 218, while India made 337.

It was England’s sixth away Test win in a row and the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The second test will also be played in Chennai, starting Saturday.
