Shift liquor shops, says Haryana speaker

PANCHKULA/ CHANDIGARH: Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta showed his dissentment over the locations of liquor vends chosen by Huda and excise department in Panchkula.
He directed the excise department to make some changes in its policy to shift the liquor outlets from public places or highway sides to maintain the law and order in Panchkula. Gupta on Monday chaired a meeting with the Haryana Urban Development Authority's Panchkula administrator Mahavir Kaushik, estate officer (EO) Anil Doon, and deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) Pradeep Yadav, besides other officers of both departments at his office in the Haryana Assembly, Chandigarh.
He asked the officials to change this policy in the coming financial year, for whcih he gave them strict instructions that he didn not wish to see liquor outlets welcoming the visitors to the city, the parks, or the hospitals. "The location of the liquor shops should be away from the public areas," he added.
Gupta said: “Liquor shops should be opened keeping the public in mind and not the booze lovers.” He mentioned a the liquor vends near Command Hospital, near IT Park, and public gardens. The public faces harassment at the hands of drunkards
