Free State police have called on residents to provide information on a double murder of alleged gang members in Welkom on Friday.

The bodies of the two men were found in Jan Hofmeyer Road at around 21:00, "lying on the tar road facing up with visible multiple open stab wounds", police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said.

The victims were certified dead by emergency personnel at the scene. The men were identified as Tsiu Motaung, 29, and Linda Mohlongo, 40.

Preliminary investigations have shown the two allegedly belonged to a gang and had allegedly clashed with members of a rival gang, Makhele said.

"Investigation into this matter was assigned to Sergeant Tsie Matlokotsi of Welkom SAPS Detective Unit, who seeks... information that may assist to trace the suspects… Contact him at 078 758 5658," Makhele said.
