Six killed, five injured in accident on Varanasi-Jaunpur highway

JAUNPUR: VARANASI: At least six people were killed while five others suffered serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck on the Varanasi-Jaunpur highway in Jalalpur area of Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district on Tuesday.
"A group of people from Sarai Khwaja area had gone to Varanasi to cremate a body on Monday night. They were returning home in a pickup van when the incident happened," said Dr Sanjay Kumar, ASP (city) Jaunpur.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
The deceased were identified as Amar Bahadur Yadav (58), Ram Singar Yadav (38), Munnilal (38), Indrajit Yadav (48), Kamala Prasad Yadav (60) and Ramkumar (65).
The truck driver escaped from the scene after the incident, the ASP said.
