UP cabinet approves caste based reservation in panchayat polls

Lucknow, Feb 9 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal for the caste based reservation of seats for three tier panchyat institutions.

The follow up government order for the reservation will be issued in next two days and the process of reservation has to be completed before March 17. The cabinet meeting was held by circulation, officials here on Tuesday confirmed.

The Allahabad high court had earlier directed the state government to complete the panchyat elections by April 30. The court had also directed the government to complete the process of reservation of seats in village panchyats, block pramukh, member block development committee, member zila panchyat and chairman of zila panchyats by February 12. The government has to rush with issuing the government order for reservation as the process of identifying seats in three tier panchyat bodies will take at least a month’s time.

The other proposals approved by the cabinet are draft bill ``UP educational institutions (reservation) bill 2021. The cabinet also approved proposal for payment of gratuity to the class IV employees of the junior high school on attaining the age of 60 years.

The cabinet also adopted a proposal for the construction of guest house with 15 suits at Kaushambi district. The proposal for the renovation, beautification and remodelling of the circuit house in Gorakhpur. The proposal for the construction of sports complex at judicial training research institute at Lucknow.

The guidelines for the implementation of the UP Atal ground water scheme under Namami gange department were also approved by the cabinet. The cabinet approved a proposal related to the UP, prohibition of religious conversion bill 2021.

A proposal related to UP damage to public and private property act 2020. The cabinet also approved pooled housing project in Barabanki district.
