Aligarh robbery: 2 cops to be probed

Noida: Nearly five months after three men were arrested for robbing a jewellery shop in Aligarh, there has been a development in the inquiry initiated into the role of Noida police after their Aligarh counterparts raised doubts about the difference in the recovery of gold.
The police said they will now record statements of the tainted officers associated with the case.
On September 11, the three bike-borne assailants had looted 700g of gold worth nearly Rs 35 lakh along with cash of Rs. 40,000 from a showroom called Sunder Jewellers in Aligarh. Six days later, Noida police arrested the trio — Saurabh, Mohit Singh and Rohit Singh — from near Sector 39 police station area.
The Noida police had recovered gold worth Rs 5 lakh.
Next, the Aligarh police approached their higher-ups against their Noida counterparts, asking them to probe the role of two officers associated with the case- the then ACP-1 (Noida) Arun Kumar Singh and Sector 39 SHO Azad Singh Tomar.
Subsequently, ADG (Agra) Ajay Anand wrote to the UP police headquarters regarding the same. This was followed by the transfer of Singh.
Aligarh SP (rural) Shubham Patel told TOI that the accused were taken into police custody remand soon after their arrests but still, more recovery could not be made in case.
“Senior officers are conducting the departmental inquiry that has been initiated into the case,” he said.
The inquiry was later forwarded to the Noida police commissionerate by the ADG (admin) Piyush Anand.
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh has now been directed to conduct an inquiry into the case.
