Chennai: VK Sasikala, close aide of former CM J Jayalalithaa, reached her T Nagar residence on Tuesday morning after a 23-hour long journey from Bengaluru to a rousing welcome.
The journey from Bengaluru to Chennai generally takes five to six hours. However, it took Sasikala time as she kept stopping to greet her supporters who had dotted the route.
The expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader made a stop at late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran's house and paid a floral tribute to the leader by garlanding his statue in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, before heading home.
Her return comes a day after she vowed to be a slave to the people of Tamil Nadu and assured her supporters that she would enter the arena of active politics.
She was discharged from Bengaluru's Victoria hospital last week where she was undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Sasikala was returning to Tamil Nadu after completing a four-year prison sentence in a disproportionate assets case.
The AIADMK on it's part has distanced itself from Sasikala by saying there was no possibility of an association with her. Further, the party expelled seven functionaries late on Monday for supporting Sasikala. Among these party functionaries was the leader who provided Sasikala with the car for her journey that bore the controversial AIADMK flag that she fearlessly flaunted despite the AIADMK saying it was not to be used by non-members.
However, Sasikala and her aides seem unperturbed by the ruckus. On Tuesday, her nephew and AMMK chief, TTV Dhinakaran said he would expedite the process to help her regain control over the party that he rightfully believed she was the general Secretary for.
In his address to the media, he also said that superstar Rajinikanth had called him to enquire about 'Chinnamma's' (Sasikala) health.
