Tripura ADC poll: IPFT to meet JP Nadda and Amit Shah soon

Agartala, Feb 9 (UNI) A delegation of 15 leaders of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), BJP’s ally in the government headed by party's general secretary and tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia will soon meet BJP national president J P Nadda and union home minister Amit Shah to discuss their alliance in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) election.
Jamatia told the media that IPFT wanted to continue with the coalition with the BJP in the ADC elections but certain demands critical for the regional party based on which it had entered the alliance before 2018 assembly polls have not been fulfilled.
The meeting with top leaders of BJP would be on the longstanding demands of the party including elevation of the status of ADC.
“An emergent meeting of IPFT's central executive committee last week has decided to hold a central rally at ADC headquarters in Khumlung on February 24 next to press for the demands. Before the meeting, IPFT delegation will discuss our pending issues as well as matters related to the upcoming ADC elections including seat sharing,” Jamatia said.
The IPFT has been demanding at least 22 seats for fighting in 28-member ADC.
Earlier, IPFT president and state revenue minister N C Debbarma had announced it wants a lion’s share of the seats in the upcoming ADC elections — expected to be held in the next three months — or else it will fight alone.
In the last Lok Sabha polls, the IPFT had fought against the BJP and displayed considerable strength in the hills. The parties will get together and hold a discussion and find out a way to fight in an alliance “to prevent opposition parties from benefitting”.
