JIND: A 52-year-old farmer, identified as Karamveer Singh of Singhwaal village in Jind district, allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree at Tikri border on Sunday.
With this death, five farmers from Punjab and Haryana, including two at Singhu and three at Tikri, have committed suicide in opposition to the farm laws till now.
The farmer, who only owned one acre land, is survived by his wife and three daughters — two of whom are just 15 and seven years old. The farmer left a five-line suicide note which said, “Bhartiya Kisan Union Zindabad. Loving farmer brothers, the Modi government is giving us dates after dates. We cannot predict when these laws will be repealed. But farmers will not go back home until these laws are scrapped.”
Police: We have found a suicide note
Bahadurgarh City police station SHO Sunil Kumar said the cops found a man hanging from a tree near the Tikri border. “The farmers told us that the man, a resident of Jind district, was protesting with them for the last many days. We have found a suicide note and have started proceedings in the case,” he added.
Some three thousand people attended the funeral of the farmer, chanting slogans such as, ‘Karmveer Amar Rahe’ and ‘Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahega. Karmveer Tera Naam Rahega.’ His body was kept on a decorated tractor for his last journey and people in his funeral procession were holding national flags and BKU flags.
