KALYAN: A Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT) bus breakdown on Durgadi bridge on Kalyan creek — in Thane district of Maharashtra — connecting Kalyan and Bhiwandi cities led to a huge traffic jam for over two two kilometres on Monday.
There was traffic congestion from Durgadi bridge to Lal chowki towards Kalyan side and Durgadi bridge to up to Reliance petrol pump on Bhiwandi side.
The incident took place at 9am on Durgadi bridge towards Kalyan side that connects Kalyan and Bhiwandi.
The office-goers from areas in Kalyan and beyond dependent on road transportation in Mumbai faced difficulties.
Yogesh Dalvi, a commuter from Kalyan travelling to Thane, said, "I was stuck on bridge for at least 30 minutes and vehicles moved at a snail's pace on the bridge."
Dalvi said, "Buses in Kalyan-Dombivli have breakdowns during due to non-maintenance of buses by KDMT."
The traffic police with the help of passers-by removed the bus by pushing back below bridge.
Milind Dhat, general manager of KDMT and deputy municipal commissioner of KDMC, said, "I will instruct our staffers to ensure these incidents don't occur."
