Farmers protest: Maharashtra government orders probe into celebrity tweets

NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra government has ordered a probe into the series of tweets put out by many celebrities and sportspersons in response to the pouring in of international support to farmers protest.
Congress leader Sachin Sawant has alleged there is a "scope" of BJP being behind the tweets by these celebrities.
.

"There was series of tweets after MEA's response to Rihanna's tweet. If a person opines on their own, it's fine but there's scope of suspicion that BJP could be behind this" said Sawant.
Sawant said he has spoken to Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, who in turn has ordered the Intelligence department to probe the matter.

Many celebrities, ranging from Sachin Tendulkar to Ajay Devgn tweeted after MEA slammed said "vested interest groups" had been trying to "mobilise international support against India" and that "the temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible".
