PC bags chairperson post in Kupwara, Independent does so in Budgam

Srinagar, Feb 8 (UNI) The Peoples Conference (PC) secured the post of chairperson in District Development Council (DDC), Kupwara, while an Independent candidate bagged the key post in Budgam.

Meanwhile, the election for the DDC posts of chairperson and vice chairperson was on Monday adjourned by the Deputy Commissioner due to lack of quorum in Baramulla.

PC’s Irfan Panditpuri was unanimously elected as DDC chairperson even as four members of the National Conference (NC) remained absent from the proceedings.

They said post of vice chairperson was also bagged by an independent candidate Haji Farooq, who was backed by PC.

Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza said Independent candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan has been elected as the chairperson while NC candidate Nazir Ahmad Jahara has bagged the Vice Chairperson’s post.

Official sources said elections to the two key posts in DDC Baramulla were adjourned as only seven members were present as against the requirement of 10 members. “Those present included independents Safina Baig and Muhammad Muzaffar, three members from People’s Conference and two from Apni Party,” they said.

They said two members each from NC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Congress and Independent Irfan Hafiz Lone were absent during the proceedings.
