Telangana Govt issues GO on 10 pc reservation for EWS

Hyderabad, Feb 8 (UNI) The Telangana Government on Monday issued orders for implementation of 10 per cent reservations for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the state-run education Institutions and in initial appointments in the state government posts.
The necessary guidelines and rules for implementing the quota would be issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) and educational departments separately, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said in the GO.
The Chief Secretary said the 103rd Amendment Act 2019 of the Constitution allows reservations for the economically weaker sections of society in higher educational institutions, including private aided or unaided institutions by the state, and also provides for reservations for them in posts in initial appointments in services under the state.
In pursuance of the Act, the Government of India has prescribed the eligibility criteria to get the benefit of 10 per cent reservation in admissions into educational institutions and appointments to posts provided in favour of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) citizens other than the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao had earlier announced that the state government would implement 10 per cent for EWS in the state.
With this 10 per cent EWS quota, reservations for various sections in the state goes up to 60 per cent.
The State government has already implementing 50 per cent quota for SC,ST, BC and Muslim minorities.
