CM eyes zero active cases

The number of active Covid cases has reduced significantly to just about 109 and this may soon get reduced to zero, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
He was speaking at an intellectual meet on the Union Budget 2021-22 organised by the BJP State unit at Hotel Castle at Palace Compound today.
N Biren said the Budget was produced amid the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the world and as such it (budget) is treating health as a priority sector.
India's initiatives and efforts towards fighting COVID-19 pandemic is historic and commendable.
The Budget also has doubled the spending on the health sector, he said.
India has about 1.30 lakh positive cases when Manipur has about 109 cases only.
The number of active cases in Manipur will soon be reduced to zero, he said.
It may be noted that the number of daily fresh infections has reduced significantly in the past few weeks.
With the vaccination programme going on coupled with low number of fresh infections, the number of active cases is expected to get reduced further.
On the Budget, he said, "This Budget was devised by consulting intellectuals, economists and officials of the Government and Niti Aayog.
The Opposition's claim and stand on the Budget is purely politics.
We go by the merit of the intellectuals and academicians.
This programme is organised to get feedbacks and suggestions from intellectuals and the public on what the State must do on the Budget".
The Budget has vision and is comprehensive.
Besides, the health sector, it also prioritises road transport and communication sectors.
The State Budget allows a spending of only Rs 2,600 crore, but if the State executes the schemes and works with dedication and sincerity, the Centre would have no issue sanctioning the required and excess funds.
Seeking public support in bringing development, he stated that the people of the State have the skills, talent and potential and they need good leadership.
He urged the intellectuals present in the meet to guide the people.
Speaking about environment, N Biren said climate change is brought about by man and rampant felling of trees in the forest and hill areas may further worsen the problem.
At the event, he informed that the Imphal View Tower on top of Langol Ching may be inaugurated on February 24 .
