Bengaluru news live: All-woman Garuda team gets training for anti-terror operations

A total of 16 young women, mostly from villages across Karnataka, are learning to shoot, handle terror, and improve their weapon-handling skills as part of the training for the first batch of the all-woman Garuda commandos of the Karnataka Police.

Four years after the government banned single-use plastic, vegetable vendors, marriage halls, small restaurants and many other establishments across the city still use it, unmindful of the environmental consequences. Activists say single-use plastic needs to eliminated at the source and shouldn’t be allowed into the state or the city, and citizens should also be responsible enough and not use the material.

Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala on Monday morning left for Tamil Nadu from the Bengaluru hotel she was staying in after being discharged from hospital.

Work on the 2.5-km Ejipura-Kendriya Sadan flyover, aimed at facilitating signal-free movement of heavy traffic on Inner Ring Road along Koramangala by avoiding four major junctions, commenced in December 2017. Three years later, only 46% of it is complete. The work was taken up by Kolkata-based construction firm Simplex Infrastructure Limited. The flyover was supposed to be operational by December 2019 but the deadline was pushed to April 2020. Simplex missed the second date too. According to the tender, the work is supposed to be completed by December 2021, but BBMP said there will be a five-month delay.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru crossed the 4-lakh mark on Saturday, but both positivity rate and case fatality rate (CFR) have reduced compared to earlier months. As per BBMP’s Covid-19 bulletin on Saturday, 3,950 patients were being treated for the infection, which put the total recoveries as on that day at 97.9%.
