HYDERABAD: As many as five lakh saplings will be planted in Mahbubnagar district on the occasion of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s birthday on February 7.
The move is a part of the state-wide ‘Green Challenge’ initiative of Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar.
Mahbubnagar district collector S Venkat Rao has directed sarpanches to plant at least 1,000 saplings in each gram panchayat.
The saplings will be planted at all mandals and district headquarters.
A human chain will be formed before the saplings plantation in three municipalities and 441 village panchayats.
More importance should be given to planting saplings along roads and highways, the collector said.
All educational institutions have also been asked to participate in the drive.
