Naveen Patnaik announces Rs 18 cr for RDW University development

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik here on Monday announced Rs 18 crore financial assistance for renovation of infrastructure of the Rama Devi Women’s University. With this aid, the institution will renovate its academic building, open air stage and hostel building.
Naveen said this while inaugurating newly built buildings of the university. It was his first meeting with students by attending a programme in an educational institution during this pandemic time.
“This is a unique institute in the sense that it’s the first and only university in Odisha till now, dedicated to women’s education. We will keep our efforts on for the development of the university,” said the chief minister.
Naveen inaugurated two academic buildings (a science block and an arts block), Central Library and a hostel for research scholar. Around Rs 33 crore has been spent for these four buildings.
Higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo spoke about women education and empowerment in his speech. Among others, local MLA AN Jena, university vice-chancellor Aparajita Chowdhury, teaching and non-teaching staff of the university and students were present.
The library is named after noted poet Kuntala Kumari Sabat, whose birth anniversary was celebrated in the state on Monday. The four-storied library building has been constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 6.52 crore under the Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme.
Anwesha Hostel is constructed for research scholars under RUSA funding with an estimated cost of Rs 3.75 crore. The four-storied Academic Block-2 or science block is constructed under RUSA scheme with an estimated cost of Rs 17.06 crore. The Academic Block-3 or Arts Block is constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 5.76 crore under the State Infrastructure Fund.
The university has around 3,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students and PhD scholars. The Rama Devi Women’s Autonomous College was converted into Rama Devi Women’s University on May 30, 2015. The university is yet to get its second campus.
