KOLKATA: A 63-year-old guest lecturer of computer applications at a college in Belur was found dead at his rented residence at Golf Green in south Kolkata on Sunday afternoon.
The victim - identified as Udayan Mukherjee - was an Australian citizen who had been living here since October 2019. Cops said the victim might have died some time ago as his body had started rotting.
Cops have ruled out foul play but will wait till the final post-mortem report to ascertain if the death was natural, suicidal or accidental in nature.
The Jadavpur police have lodged an unnatural death case. Cops probing the case said neighbours were alerted by the foul smell emanating from his second-floor flat of the LIG Block-8 on Sunday morning. It was then that they decided to inform his aunt, who was the only relative, who would visit Mukherjee.
"He holds a Life Time Visa (NRI Visa)," said DC (SSD) Rashid Munir Khan.
