New farm schemes for Bengal farmers if BJP voted to power: Modi

New farm schemes for Bengal farmers if BJP voted to power: Modi

Haldia, Feb 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday promised that if Bharatiya Janata Party was voted to power in West Bengal, the Union Cabinet in its first meeting after the elections would clear several farm-related welfare schemes for farmers of the poll-bound state.

The assertion from the Prime Minister holds importance as tens of thousands of farmers have been protesting against the newly-enacted farm laws for almost two-and-half months at borders of Delhi.

Addressing a rally at Helipad ground in this port city of East Medinipur, Mr Modi slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government alleging, "the TMC of maa, maati, maanus is making farmers suffer, while one can see who is working to benefit farmers.”

Mr Modi said the Bengal government joined the PM Kisan scheme reluctantly, "while the Centre is still unable to transfer benefits because the details of Bengal farmers have not been provided.

"Striking nationalist chord, Mr Modi alleged "Mamata di gets irked if someone asks her about development and chant Jai Shri Ram, “but does not say a word at international conspiracies to defame the nation."

“Attempts are being made to target India’s image, but has Mamata reacted?” he questioned.

He said his government is well prepared to save the country and its people from any "attempt to defame the nation".

Mr Modi claimed that now the people have realised what the TMC had promised before the 2011 poll and what the party delivered.

"Now the people wanted to get rid of the TMC government and look for real poriborton (change) and a "double engine government" (both at the state and centre) would restore the lost glory of Bengal," Mr Modi said.

He said Bengal was on the forefront in everything soon after Independence but the momentum was lost first during the Congress rule and thereafter Left and the TMC's regime for over half a century.

Mr Modi also alerted the people to be careful about the "match fixing of TMC and Congress" during the elections.

He claimed the trio--TMC, Congress and Left-- are active in Delhi while Congress and Left are in talks in Kerala too.

Mr Modi alleged the TMC has committed too many fouls. "Bengal is the state of football lovers, so I will say this in the language of football. TMC has committed far too many fouls, the foul of corruption, the foul of neglecting the poor."

Attacking the erstwhile Left regime, he alleged the revival of the Left meant revival of corruption, crime, violence, and attacks on democracy.

"In the first year of Mamata Government, it became clear that what Bengal had got was not 'parivartan' but revival of the Left and that too with interest", he alleged.

"Bengal needs a double-engine government for the true poriborton," Mr Modi reiterated."Look at Tripura, another state that had suffered under years of misrule, is doing well under the BJP government," said Mr Modi.

He said during Cyclone Amphan, during Covid, the TMC government had embezzled relief funds provided by the Centre.

"Can you think of any other worse crime," asked the Prime Minister. This was Mr Modi's second visit to the state in 2021.

On January 23, the prime minister visited Kolkata to mark the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's 125th birth anniversary.
