Naval officer burnt alive for ransom of Rs 10 lakh

Palghar, Feb 6 (UNI) A 26-year-old Naval Officer has been kidnapped by three unidentified persons and burnt alive in the jungles of Palghar district on Friday the district rural police said on Saturday.

The PRO at the Palghar district rural police Sachin Navadkar told this correspondent that the victim Surajkumar Mitilesh Dubey, who hailed from Ranchi has been working in the Navy since 2019. He was posted in the INS Agrani and after completing his vacation on January 30, was on his way back for duty.

At the Chennai Airport three unidentified persons pointed a revolver at him and made a demand of Rs. 10 lakhs from him and when he could not not fulfill their demands he was abducted and brought to the jungles of Vevji within the limits of Gholdwad of Talasari. Three days he was held captive at Chennai itself the police said.

The trio tied his hands and legs and set him on fire in the jungle on Friday and fled the scene leaving him for dead.

The badly burnt victim rushed out and with the help of the local villagers was rushed to the Dahanu PHC where he was given treatment and as he had got more than 90% birn wounds was being rushed to the Naval Hospital at Mumbai but on the way he succumbed the police said.

The police said an offence of murder under section 302 has been registered against the trio who are being hunted by the police.
