CM inaugurates Golden Jubilee Nutrition Garden at Palampur Agriculture University

Dharamshala, Feb 7 (UNI) Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday inaugurated the 'Golden Jubilee Nutrition Garden' at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University Palampur under the Rs 19 crore environment sustainability plan concept of CAAST-NAHEP project entitled 'Protected Agriculture and Natural Farming' to motivate the people to adopt gardening in a systematic manner in a small piece of land.
The Chief Minister said these gardens would ensure access to healthy diet and adequate macro and micro nutrients to the people at their doorsteps.
These gardens would also help in strengthening food security and improve income generation and livelihood. They would also play a significant role towards environmental sustainability by taking care of the natural resources of the area.
Mr Thakur said this concept of nutritional garden would also ensure involvement of students in environmental sustainability by making them technically aware of various fruits and medicinal plants.
He said this garden would cover an area of 3250 square meters and include various food species as well as medicinal and aromatic plants.
In the first phase, 21 plants each of apple, peach, plum, apricot, pomegranate and persimmon have been proposed to the planted in this winter season and later planting of other fruit species as well as medicinal aromatic plants would be planted as per their planting season, he added.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof HK Chaudhary detailed various activities of the University.
HP Speaker Vidhan Sabha Vipin Singh Parmar, Industries Minister Bikram Singh, MLAs Ravinder Dhiman and Mulk Raj Premi, former MLAs Praveen Sharma and Dulo Ram, Chairman of Wool Federation Trilok Kapoor and District BJP president Hari Dutt Sharma were also present on the occasion, among others.

Lucknow Feb 7 (UNI) Aditi Singh, the rebel Congress MLA from Rae Bareli, on Sunday attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi by asking the last time she visited her parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli.
Ms Singh, while interacting with the people of her assembly constituency said the people of Rae Bareli had voted for Sonia Gandhi, but "she never bothered to look after her constituency."
"The elected representative is accountable towards the electors, but Sonia Gandhi neither visits her constituency nor meets the people of Rae Bareli when they go to Delhi," Ms Singh alleged.
