Delhi's air quality improves to 'moderate' category, visibility increases

The air quality in Delhi has improved to 'moderate' category on Sunday. As per SAFAR, higher ventilation is likely to influence air quality positively.

Delhi's air quality improved to 'moderate' category on Sunday. According to SAFAR forecast, Delhi will continue to have PM10 levels in 'moderate' category for the three days as well. However, PM2.5 levels are expected to go down to 'poor' category for the same time.

The overall air quality index stood at 159, according to System of Air Quality & Weather Forecasting & Research (SAFAR), reported news agency ANI.

As per SAFAR forecast, the PM10 level of AQI is expected to be at 187 on Monday and at 224 after three days. The forecast also says, "Surface winds are high and forecasted to stay high for the next 2 days. Higher ventilation is likely to influence air quality positively."

Air Quality Index is a tool for effective communication of air quality status to people in terms, which are easy to understand. It transforms complex air quality data of various pollutants into a single number (index value), nomenclature and colour.

There are six AQI categories, namely Good + Satisfactory, Moderately polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department said that Delhi recorded a temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius with visibility of 500 m on Sunday morning at Palam Airport and of 10.6 degrees Celsius with visibility of 1000 m at Safdarjung Airport.
