Two drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Kulgam

Srinagar, Feb 7 (UNI) Two drug peddlers were on Sunday arrested with contraband in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

A police spokesperson said two drug peddlers were on Sunday intercepted at a checkpoint in village Kharpora in Kulgam. “During checking, police recovered 10 bottles of Chlorpheniramine Melate and Codeine Phosphate,” he said, adding two drug peddlers, identified as Ghulam Mohammad War and Waseem Ahmad Tantray, were immediately taken into custody.

He said Rs 3200 were also recovered from the accused. “In this connection, case stands registered at Police Station Yaripora and investigation taken up,” he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti-social activity in their neighbourhood.

Over 150 feared dead in glacier break in Uttarakhand, PM, CM announce ex-gratia relief, alert sounded, rescue operations on

Dehradun, Feb. 7 (UNI) A substantial part of the Nanda Devi glacier burst at Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Sunday, causing huge floods in Dhauli Ganga and Alaknanda rivers which led to massive devastation in the Himalayan region. More than 150 people, including labourers working at the Rishiganga power project in Tapovan-Reni and a few shepherds, are feared killed. At least 10 bodies have been recovered so far by the rescue teams.

Lucknow Feb 7 (UNI) Aditi Singh, the rebel Congress MLA from Rae Bareli, on Sunday attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi by asking the last time she visited her parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli.
Ms Singh, while interacting with the people of her assembly constituency said the people of Rae Bareli had voted for Sonia Gandhi, but "she never bothered to look after her constituency."
"The elected representative is accountable towards the electors, but Sonia Gandhi neither visits her constituency nor meets the people of Rae Bareli when they go to Delhi," Ms Singh alleged.
