Chakka Jam: Vehicular traffic on NH badly affected in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Feb 6 (UNI) Movement of vehicular traffic on National Highways passing through Karnataka came to a grinding halt, as the agitators, including women, sat in the middle of the roads and also cooked food there, responding to the nationwide call for 'Chakka Jam' given by the farmers agitating in the National Capital.
Thousands of vehicles, including trucks, goods vehicles, cars and buses were seen stranded at various places in the state as the agitators continued to raise slogans on roads.
Police had a tough time in clearing the roads. On some of the sites, the agitators indulged in a wordy duel with police, who wanted to take them into custody, as no permission was granted for the protest.
However, the noon Chakka Jam from 1200 hrs to 1500 hrs passed off peacefully, without any untoward incident reported from any part of the state, according to reports reaching the Police headquarters here.

Additional forces were deployed to maintain law and order.
Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leader Badagalpura Nagendra said that highways were blocked under the banner of Samyukta Kissan Morcha.
Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway was blocked at Columbia Asia Hospital junction, while Mysuru-Ooty Highway was blocked at Bandipalaya in Mysuru.
According to a report from Kalaburagi, activists of various farmers organisations, led by Samyukta Horata – Karnataka (Kalaburagi), commenced a roadblock at Ram Mandir Circle, where four highways pass through.
Revolutionary songs and songs hailing the farmers' movement were sung during the agitation.
Leaders, including former MLA B R Patil, Shoukat Ali Alur, H V Divakar, Allamaprabhu Patil and Neela K addressed the activists and condemned the attitude of the Union government in trying to weaken the movement of the farmers.
They announced that the ryots would not withdraw the agitation till their demands of repealing the three farm laws and withdrawing the cases against farmers were not met.
Though the agitators were not in large numbers, police made precautionary arrangements like putting barricades all along the circle, not allowing any vehicle to pass through the place and not allowing the agitators to cross the barricades.
Movement of buses was withdrawn for four hours, from 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs.
In the state capital, leaders of various farm organisations, including KRRS and Green Brigade President Kuruburu Shantakumar and Vattal Paksha leader Vattal Nagraj, apart from hundreds of agitators, were taken into custody.
