IPL 2021 Auction: Highest-paid legends in world cricket; Rahul Dravid also features in this list

IPL 2021 Auction- Ahead of the mega T20 league- IPL, a mini-auction will take place in Chennai on February 18. A total of 1,097 players have registered for bidding, including international players and stars of overseas T20 leagues. Over the years, the cash-rich league has witnessed top players from world cricket in action. In this article, we’ll inform you about those legends (aged 45+ years) who were bought for a hefty price over the years. Take a look at it:

Sachin Tendulkar- (47)

The ‘God of Cricket’ has played in six IPL seasons. MI bought Sachin Tendulkar for Rs 8.28 crore in the last IPL season (2013). He has accumulated a wealth of Rs 38.295 crore during his stint in the IPL.

Adam Gilchrist – (49)

Former Australia wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist, who won the silverware as skipper for Deccan Chargers in 2009, has accumulated a wealth of Rs 22.94 crore in the IPL. He was last bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in 2013 for Rs 4.79 crore.

Rahul Dravid – (48)

India’s most dependable batsman in Test Rahul Dravid might not have the numbers to show for his abilities in the T20 league, but he still ranks top in the list of legends who have earned a fair amount of money in the IPL. The India Under-19 head coach earned Rs 19.32 crore in his entire IPL career. He played for Rajasthan Royals in his last season who bought him for Rs 2.3 crore.

Sourav Ganguly – (48)

One of India’s most successful skipper, Sourav Ganguly is also on the top ten list of players with highest-paid overall salary (45+ years category) in IPL. Pune Warriors India (now defunct) bought him for Rs 18 crore in 2012. Ganguly went on to earn Rs 16.7 crore in his five seasons in IPL.

Michael Hussey – (45)

Mr Cricket raked Rs 15 crore in his seven seasons in the IPL. His highest salary was during IPL 2014 where Mumbai Indians (MI) paid him Rs 5 crore (his only season from MI). Hussey has played six seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Muttiah Muralitharan – (48)

Spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan too has earned huge bucks in the Indian Premier League. He has played for three IPL franchises CSK, Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct) and RCB and earned Rs 15.2 crore in seven seasons of IPL.

Shane Warne – (51)

The next big name after Muralitharan, Shane Warne helped Rajasthan Royals win the inaugural IPL edition. He went on to play four seasons in IPL, earning a total of Rs 14.3 crore.

Sanath Jayasuriya – (51)

Jayasuriya has played three seasons for Mumbai Indians. He was rated high owing to his all-round capability on the field. In just three IPL seasons, he accumulated a wealth of Rs 13.2 crore.

Brad Hodge (46)

The former Australia batsman Brad Hodge has played seven  IPL seasons. Rajasthan Royals (RR) last bought him for Rs 2.4 crore. His total IPL salary stands at Rs 9.6 crore.

Herschelle Gibbs (46)

South Africa player Herschelle Gibbs has accumulated Rs 8 crore in his four seasons in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians (MI) had last bought the attacking opening batsman for Rs 2.5 crore.
