Punjab: Legal teams of Akalis meet kin of arrested protesters

PATIALA: The legal teams of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) have been meeting the families of farmers who were arrested by Delhi Police in connection with violence on Republic Day in national capital.
The legal teams of both the parties claimed to be tracing out the families of arrested farmers after collecting their data. The advocates also assured the families to carry out their entire legal proceedings without charging them anything.
Former Punjab additional advocate general Chhinderpal Singh Brar, who claimed to be heading legal cell of SAD (D) said, “We have met the families of arrested farmers who hails from Ludhiana, Moga, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa and other districts. We have collected the required documents and consent of the families and will file a petition in court on Saturday. So far, we have been able to collect the details of 10 farmers, while the remaining families are being traced out.”
Similarly, SAD legal panel member A S Dharni from Fatehgarh Sahib claimed to have traced out families of around 25 such protesters jailed in Delhi under various sections of IPC and UAPA. He said, “We have met the family of Ranjit Singh in his village in Nawanshahar, 14 of Moga, seven from a Bathinda village, one each from Ghanauli in Ropar and others and collected power of attorney to fight their case.”
