New Delhi: Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu has exhorted Parliamentarians to be role models before society through their conduct inside and outside Parliament and thus help restore the stature of politicians in public perception.
Addressing a gathering on Friday, after releasing a book on Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Singhvi’s initiatives in educational and health sectors in rural Rajasthan using his MPLAD funds, Naidu said: “Members of Parliament must be like role models both in their conduct and in their contribution and also in attending Parliament, making valuable suggestions and in upholding the dignity of Parliament. The impression about politicians is going down in the eyes of people and we MPs must set better examples by remembering, and by taking inspiration from, the contributions of our Constitution-makers and veteran Parliamentarians”. His comments, incidentally, coincide with the noisy protests in Parliament over farms laws.
He said the detailed social and developmental works Singhvi did by making good use of his MPLAD funds can be an example to all MPs.
