AMBALA: Ambala police booked an accused person under charges of abetment of suicide over a property dispute in a village of Shahzadpur area of Ambala district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Jaichand of Patarheri village in Ambala district.
Ompal of Patarheri village lodged a complaint against Umed Singh of Badhouli village of Ambala district, alleging that he forced his father Jaichand to commit suicide due to harassment over property dispute.
The police booked accused Umed under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shahzadpur police station.
Ompal stated to the police, “My father Jaichand had retired from Haryana Cooperative Bank in 2011 and he purchased 7 kanal 9 marla land from Umed Singh of Badhouli village and registered it in the name of my mother Sumitra in 2014. After the registry, Umed Singh never gave the possession of the land and neither any share in the contract on the land. Several panchayats were held in this regard but the matter did not get resolved. Umed continued to harass my father and filed a civil suit against him at the Naraingarh court. He used to threaten that he would get him implicated in a false case. Due to this harassment, my father committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at about 8 am on February 5, 2021.”
“We found a slip from his pocket, on it he wrote that Umed Singh is responsible for his death”, further added Ompal.
Shahzadpur police station house officer (SHO), sub-inspector (SI) Dhoom Singh said, “The post-mortem of deceased Jaichand has been conducted on Saturday and his body has been handed over to family members for last rites. A suicide note has been recovered from his pocket in which he held responsibility of Umed Singh, from whom he had bought some land and later had some dispute. We are investigating the case and further action will be taken as per the facts.”
