Patna, Feb 6 (UNI) Lauding the farmers for doing business worth Rs 1.40 lakh crore through the National Agricultural Market Electronics (eNAM), Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that 1,000 additional Mandis would be established across the country to facilitate the farmers for selling their produces digitally at one click through eNAM.
Mr Prasad, while elaborating the Union budget for 2021-22 fiscal, told newspersons here that provisions of eNAM have been made for the farmers, who can now sell their produce anywhere in the country by pressing a button from their place.
Appreciating the farmers for adopting innovative farming, he said that ryots in Aurangabad of Bihar producing strawberry and farmers in Kishanganj producing pineapples can now conveniently sell their yield in the market anywhere in the country, just at one click.
Keeping in mind the benefits of eNAM and enthused with its performances as 1.5 crore farmers linked with it so far did the business for Rs 1.40 lakh crore, the government has made the provision of setting up additional 1000 Mandis for the convenience of farmers, he said.
He further said that provisions have also been made for providing digital ownership card to the farmers across the country and Rs 16.5 lakh crore have been earmarked in the budget for agricultural loan.
Mr Prasad said the Union government was providing Rs 6000 annually to each of the 11 crore farmers in the country and maintained that 90,000 ryots have been provided with the compensation under the Crop Insurance scheme.
