The villagers of Carmona through meetings held under Atmanirbhar Bharat-Swayampurna Goa have decided to avail schemes from departments of agriculture, social welfare and animal husbandry, with an aim to make the village self-sufficient.
During a recent meeting held with villagers, the panchayat deliberated and interacted with the nodal officer appointed to be the link between the state departments and the village panchayat.
The officer Sanjay Walvekar conducted the meeting along with resource persons from the social welfare department, animal husbandry and veterinary department and the zonal agricultural office, who explained the modalities of the various government schemes and benefit for the villagers.
Speaking about the meeting, sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said that a resolution to request the agriculture department to make benefits easily available was taken.
“We will organise more workshops under this project launched by the government. Around 100 people attended the meeting, and a resolution was passed to request the agriculture department through the nodal officers to allow people who don’t have Krishi cards to take advantage of the vermin- compost scheme that could be used to handle the wet waste from houses in their own backyards,” he said.
He also informed of the success of the public grievances fortnight initiative where the villagers were encouraged to inform of the problems they face.
“At the end of our ‘Public Grievance Fortnight,’ we received more than 150 complaints regarding non-functional LED streetlights, and another 15 complaints regarding water supply issue. List of non-functional streetlights has already been forwarded to the assistant engineer, Benaulim. The electricity department has started with the work of repair as well as replacement of defective lights in two wards. Grievances related to water supply will be forwarded to the PWD soon. The PWD has also been asked to re-commission the overhead water storage tank as per gram sabha demand to bolster water pressure in neighbouring areas of the tank. The panchayat office will be maintaining a file 24×7 for recording such public grievances,” informed Jorge.
