Recall alert: Dips and salads recalled by Illinois-based Food Evolution ahead of Super Bowl

An Illinois company is recalling nearly 7,000 pounds of ready-to-eat dip and salad products containing meat, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday.

Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, Food Evolution, of Schiller Park, Illinois, issued the recall because the products “were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.”

The USDA classified the announcement as a "Class I" recall, which it defines as a "health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

The affected products were only distributed in Illinois, according to the recall notice, which said there have been "no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products."

The affected products were produced "on various dates from Nov. 9, 2020, through Jan. 29" and have “USE BY” dates through Feb. 6. They have the establishment number “EST. 34309” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

“Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it," the USDA said. "This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

The recalled products are:

  • A 31-ounce container containing “Taco Dip With Refried Beans, Chili, Sour Cream, Cheddar, Onions, Black Olives, Jalapenos, & Red Pepper thoughtfully handmade – fresh to you – Fresh, Fast, Gourmet.”

  • An 18-ounce container containing “Taco Dip With Refried Beans, Chili, Sour Cream, Cheddar, Onions, Black Olives, Jalapenos, & Red Pepper thoughtfully handmade – fresh to you – Fresh, Fast, Gourmet.”

  • A 7-ounce container containing “Tri-Colored Italian Style Rotini Pasta Salad with Salami thoughtfully handmade – fresh to you – Fresh, Fast, Gourmet.”

  • An 8-ounce container containing “German Style Potato Salad with Bacon thoughtfully handmade – fresh to you – Fresh, Fast, Gourmet.”

Hunter Biden was reportedly in the process of divesting from his equity stake in BHR in late December, but as of last week, he appears to have retained his investment through his company, Skaneateles LLC. BHR, whose largest shareholder is the Chinese government-controlled Bank of China, has invested about $2.1 billion. Hunter Biden came under scrutiny last year for his lucrative position on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma. In leaked emails from 2014, Biden appears to try to leverage his influence with his father, then-vice president Joe Biden, who was heavily involved in U.S. policy on Ukraine, referring to the elder Biden as “my guy.” He also attracted criticism for entering into a consulting contract with China’s largest private energy company that initially earned Hunter Biden $10 million a year “for introductions alone,” according to leaked emails. Hunter Biden’s memoir, “Beautiful Things,” is scheduled to come out on April 6. The book will focus on the younger Biden’s well-documented drug abuse issues, according to Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
