GURUGRAM: The state vigilance bureau has arrested one more policeman in connection with the alleged kidnapping and extortion of a Delhi-based call centre owner by then SHO of Kherki Daula and his associates. The former SHO and a head constable have already been arrested.
The arrested cop — a constable — has been identified as Jagbir. He was nabbed on Thursday. Officers said Jagbir, along with head constable Amit, allegedly kidnapped businessman Naveen Bhutani from a restaurant in the city and took him to Kherki Daula police station, from where he was later taken to a farmhouse in Pataudi. “He was produced before court and taken into two-day custody on Friday. We will try to find out details of the other cops involved,” said a vigilance bureau officer associated with the investigation.
The owner of the farmhouse, Krishan Yadav, was arrested on January 7, while then Kherki Daula SHO Vishal Kumar surrendered before the Gurugram court on January 12.
Amit was arrested by the vigilance bureau on December 29 while accepting Rs 5 lakh from Naveen.
Vishal and some other policemen had allegedly kidnapped Naveen on December 22 for ransom. Naveen had been invited to Apno Ghar in Gurugram by his business partner to settle a financial dispute. The moment he reached Apno Ghar, two policemen in uniform and seven in plain clothes took him in custody, bundled him inside his car and took him to Kherki Daula police station, where SHO Vishal allegedly thrashed him. The policemen then allegedly kept him hostage at Krishan’s farmhouse, setting him free only after he handed over Rs 57 lakh in cash.
“Amit and Jagbir had picked Naveen up from the restaurant. More arrests are expected soon,” said Mayan Raghav, the counsel for Naveen.
