BENGALURU: An Asha worker from Belagavi, who was administered the Covishield dose on January 22, died on Wednesday (Feb 3).
The 33-year-old developed headache and began vomiting on January 30. She was treated for gastritis at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. When the headache persisted, she was shifted to KLE hospital. The cause of death is reported as cerebral thrombosis — a brain clot.
“The AEFI committee believes the death is coincidental as the course of events happened eight days after vaccination,” said Dr Rajani KN, state deputy director for immunisation. “She had no comorbidities.” This is the third death post vaccination in the state.
Meanwhile, Karnataka reported 430 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, including 217 from Bengaluru. A total of 74,119 tests were conducted and the state’s daily positivity rate stood at 0.5%. The state reported three deaths — two in Bengaluru and one in Dharwad. Karnataka now has 5,874 active cases, 3,833 of whom are in Bengaluru.
Karnataka recorded 34% vaccine coverage on Friday. While 88,485 healthcare workers were scheduled for vaccination, only 30,387 took the shot.
