MADURAI: An inter-ministerial team from the Centre on Friday concluded its two-day assessment of damage caused by unseasonal rain in southern Tamil Nadu in January. The team visited affected areas in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts on Friday.
The team comprising joint secretary in the ministry of home affairs Ashutosh Agnihotri and others was accompanied by state commissioner of disaster management D Jagannathan.
The team began inspection in affected areas in Ramanathapuram district. District collector in-charge A Sivakami explained that crops in of 87,596 hectares of land (2.16 lakh acres) were damaged by the unseasonal rains in January.
In Sivagangai district, the team was told crops 36,122 hectares (89,259 acres) were affected by the rains. The team visited three places in the district and interacted with farmers.
