Maharashtra: Three lanes deployed for morning walkers in Thane

THANE: Morning walkers and cyclists now have three allocated lanes in the city as the traffic department will be blocking three lanes for vehicular traffic, for two hours in the morning.
The traffic department who started the initiative on Friday stated that it was taken for a ‘healthy city’ and so that people can use the lanes with no worries from 5am to 7am.
The three lanes that will be dedicated are – Teen hath naka to Dharmaveer naka (service road), Hiranandani meadows junction to Birsa Munda chowk near Pokhran road no.2 and amphitheater near Upvan till Gawand Baugh.
“As these green corridors will be dedicated for morning walkers, joggers, cyclists, exercising, one can use the lane carefree. There will not be incidents of any accidents as vehicles will not be allowed also it will help reduce crimes like chain-snatching, which mainly occur when people are on morning walks,” said Balasaheb Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Thane traffic.
It is learnt that this initiative will be done initially for a month to see for any suggestion or objections faced, as per protocol.
Also, people residing in the areas will not face any problems if they want to go out with their vehicles as there are alternative routes too around these lanes.
