UP first state in India to immunise 5.8 lakh people against Covid-19

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh became the first state in the country to have vaccinated over 5.5 lakh people against Covid-19.
According to information from the state health department, as many as 5.89 lakh health workers have received the vaccine against novel coronavirus so far against a cumulative target of 8.44 lakh till today.

Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad claimed that this is the largest in the country. “UP is the first state to have vaccinated over five lakh persons against the pandemic infection,” he stated adding that the activity will continue on Friday too.
Talking about the achievement on Thursday, an official spokesperson said: “Of the total 5.89 lakh persons vaccinated so far, 1,25,308 health workers were immunised on Thursday. Keeping the day’s target of 1,72,396 in mind, the turnout was 72.69% which is exemplary for a state like UP.” Sources revealed that less than 100 episodes of adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) were reported and one was hospitalised.

Gonda tops UP chart with 115% turnout of recipients
Spokesperson stated that all the 1,607 planned sessions were held and both Covishield and Covaxin were administered to health workers. Those vaccinated on Thursday, will get the second dose on March 4.
Among districts, Gonda ranked number one with 115% turnout, while Sambhal (101%), Unnao (99.4%), Sant Kabir Nagar (99%) and Firozabad (96.27%) made it to the top five. Gautam Budh Nagar
(48.5%) finished last and Aligarh (53.79%), Kasganj
(54.30%), Bulandshahr
(58.57%) and Agra (58.19%) were placed in the bottom five. The state capital recorded a turnout of 63.14%.
General manager, immunisation, National Health Mission, UP, Dr Manoj Shukla said that the remaining health workers would be covered in the sessions on Friday when the vaccination of frontline workers will also start.
“As per the available list, more than 8 lakh frontline workers, including police, municipal, civil defence, armed forces, revenue and panchayati raj department personnel, will be vaccinated,” Dr Shukla said. He added that in order to achieve a higher coverage of vaccinated health workers, changes have been made in the Co-Win portal. “The change will facilitate vaccination of the willing listed beneficiaries in place of the absentee counterparts,” he said.
Officials urged health and frontline workers not to miss their vaccine as their selection was done on the basis of a priority list that assessed the risk of infection. “Health workers topped this chart, while frontline workers followed next,” said ACS Prasad.
The vaccination of all the individuals in the two categories is to be completed before March 25.
